Gday country music friends.
Its now Autumn and the year is zooming along.
Anyhow Ill get right to it. I am very excited about a gig coming up in April. It is touted as ‘The Country Wanderers” reunion show. This will be a one of the few gigs I get to do in Victoria this year. You may be aware that I’m now living back over in Western Australia and don’t get to travel that way as often as I used too.
This gig is to be held at the Boolarra Community Hotel Pub, Victoria, Sunday April 22nd starting at 1.30pm. It’ll be a great Sunday Session I’m sure.
‘The Country Wanderers’ were a band that played for many years around the Gippsland area of Victoria from early 80s up til late 90s. Playing mainly traditional country (Merle Haggard and Buck Owens etc), the band played every pub, RSL, club and many festivals. Not only did they play their own sets, they did huge amounts of backing for lots of different Country artists local and the ones travelling through the area.
I myself, was very fortunate enough to cut my country teeth in this band for over 12 years, playing drums and eventually playing guitar and vocals. I couldn’t tell you enough of how this band set my country music career rolling.
Graham Grant was the band leader and lead vocalist. Not only was Graham a great vocalist, he was one of the best entertainers I had seen.
Bill Armstrong, played bass and sang harmonies. He also sang a few tunes aswell. Bill is the only member of the band who played from start to finish.
Ron (Piano) and Laurie (Drums) Armstrong were original members.
Ken Forster (my Father) played electric lead guitar. Dad joined the band after it had been playing a couple of months. My mum also played drums for a little while until I started playing in the band at age 12.
As I said there have been a few different lineups over the years, as well many different artists the band had performed with.
Over the past year or so, I had been in contact with Ron Armstrong, even doing some songs with his band. We got chatting about a ‘Country Wanderers’ reunion. Now it’s happening. We have some performers who had played with the band over the years dropping by to perform and sing with us. We also have the famous Trucking with Tim Ryan helping out on the day.
If you had seen the Country Wanderers play, youll love this gig. Especailly if you are a lover of traditional country Music.
So if you aren’t doing anything Sunday 22nd April and love traditional Country Music, give the Boolarra Pub a call and Book a table. Call (03) 5169 6420
Hope everyone is well.
Keep safe on the Track
