Last month I mentioned that great friend and band member for over 12 years Nic Pitman has been unwell. I am happy to say he is receiving some productive treatment and looks to be on the mend a little. I understand he has a long way to go. However he is one of the most positive people I know and will get through it. I really look forward to him getting well and coming back and playing with us again real soon. His mateship on the road and at gigs has been missed.
As I mentioned also, young Charlie Phyphers from the Cartwheels ilk has been helping out. So you’ll be seeing Charlie at Mildura festival and some of the other gigs we’ll be doing in the coming months.
The other good news is, that we have locked in Kevin Bergen to play pedal Steel with us for the Midlura Festival. Kevin lives in Gawler SA and is very well known for his wonderful talents. So we look forward to gigging with him in September.
I have had some fun gigs over the past months. One in particular was going back to the Bairnsdale Country music club, where my Cousin Jamie Curtis and I started so many many years ago. It was so much fun performing with my mum (Hanny Forster) on the Drums, my brother (Duane Forster) on the Keyboards, also my Uncle Ron Robinson on Bass guitar and long time family friend Jeff Carley on Pedal Steel. Jeff is also the president of the BCMC. It was great to get my Uncle Max Curtis up to play a few tunes. He also done a few on the ol Gumleaf. Also my cousin Jamie, who I mentioned before, he done a set with me. It was a whole lot of fun. Another family friend Rosemary Ingle got up and sang as well as Jamies Daughter Carisma. It was wonderful to keep it in the family. My highlight was my daughter Paige performing, who turned 18 a few days before. Paige played the Banjo and sang beautifully.
We are playing our once a year gig at the Australian Country Music Guild, which is held at the Pascoevale RSL in Victoria. That will be whole heps of fun too.
I am also looking forward to performing at the Terang Town Hall in Terang Victoria. This is a gig for the Dairy Farmers who are doing it a little tough at the moment. SO its a night out for them. There are a couple of Comedians on the show also, including the legendary Dave Hughes.
We are also at my Favourite festival of the year, the Mildura Country Music festival. This is our 11th year as a backing band. It is also the 30th Anniversary of the Mildura Country Music Festival, so I would say its going to be huge and loads of fun. I'm really looking forward to doing the Merle Haggard and George Jones tributes. These two fellas are huge influences on my music. We will be playing other big influences like Buck Owens, Ricky Skaggs and Don Williams.
Once again, thankyou, everyone who supports me at my gigs. Its always great to catch up with the old friends and meet new ones. As I may have said before, I'm not on Facebook. I’m a little bit old school and enjoy emails and people just calling me on the telephone.
Anyhow all the best, I look forward to hearing from you. Please don’t hesitate to call me, mob 0427344496
Keep safe Lee Forster
